There is some debate among Montessorians about whether the traditional hand washing activity should still be included in today's classrooms. It is certainly no longer the way wash our hands in modern society.  Many feel that the activity should be replaced entirely with hand washing at a sink. One point in favor of doing hand washing with a bowl and pitcher is that it allows a child to take their time with the activity without monopolizing a sink.

In this activity the child learns how to wash his hands.
